MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) -

A Muscatine maker of corn-based products has agreed to pay a $129,000 fine to the Environmental Protection Agency for violations of the Clean Water Act.

The EPA says Grain Processing Corp. has reached a settlement that includes the fine for violations in 2011. The company certifies in the agreement that it is in compliance with federal regulations.

The EPA says the company failed to properly monitor pollutant discharges and did not adequately maintain control systems, which make it difficult to track pollutant releases.

The company also exceeded certain release limits that could have had an effect on the Mississippi River.

A company statement says it has worked with the EPA to address the issues and remains committed taking the right steps to protect the health and safety of the community.
