The National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse will hold a free SKYWARN Severe Weather Spotter Training on Tuesday, April 16.
The NWS says it relies heavily on storm reports from spotters to give them information that can help prompt warnings that save lives.
The training is intended for storm spotters or potential storm spotters, but is also open to the public.
Event organizer Todd Shea is encouraging large groups and active volunteers to attend the training.
"Accurate and timely reports of severe weather, by trained individuals, not only helps our office, but can save lives in the local community. We always need more eyes on the sky," Shea said.
The training will be held in the Marycrest Auditorium in the Mayo Clinic Health System-Franciscan Medical Center on West Avenue at 6:30 p.m. The class will last about two hours. Pre-registration is not needed.
