Former UW-L student gets probation for sexual assault
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A former UW-La Crosse student is sentenced for his role in the sexual assault of a classmate.
20 year old Brayden Wienke pleaded guilty Friday afternoon to a reduced charge of misdemeanor battery for the September 2010 assault.
Wienke and 19 year old Casey Gudis were initially charged with first-degree sexual assault for pinning the victim to a dorm room bed and assaulting the victim with an object.
Wienke will serve 12 months probation for the battery charge. He will also serve community service and pay restitution to the victim as part of a diversion agreement.
Gudis pleaded no contest in August 2010 to third-degree sexual assault, false imprisionment and battery, and was sentenced to six months in jail and two years probation.
Gudis' attorney asked Judge Elliot Levine Friday for the charges to be expunged from his record. Levine says he will consider this after Gudis serves his probation.
Wienke was set to stand trial in November.
