Firefighters douse fire in Cedar Rapids flood home
Firefighters in Cedar Rapids have doused another fire in a flood-damaged home.
Fire department spokesman Greg Buelow says a passerby noticed the fire Wednesday morning and called 911.
Buelow says the house appeared to be abandoned. It didn't have doors or windows and had been stripped to the frames inside.
Damage was mainly to a stairwell, first-floor framing and flooring on the second floor.
Buelow says this is the 38th structure fire in the flood zone since 2008, when the Cedar River inundated the area and damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes. It's the first fire in that area since August.
