The La Crosse Fire Department says radiant heat from a grill is likely the cause of a fire that damaged part of Rosie’s Café early Thursday morning.
When firefighters arrived at the restaurant, 2225 16th Street South, they saw smoke coming from an interior wall near a grill.
They evacuated the building, opened up a wall and put out the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the interior of one wall. Investigators say the most probable cause of the fire was radiant heat from a grill conducted to combustibles.
The fire department credits early detection by employees and quick action by firefighters for preventing the fire from spreading throughout the rest of the building.
