Father won't be charged in death of French Island toddler
LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) -- A father in La Crosse County won't face criminal charges in the death of his 15-month-old daughter.
A rare death inquest hearing was held into the Dec. 28 drowning at the Town of Campbell home. The father told investigators he was given his daughter a bath and left the room for no more than five minutes to change his other child's diaper. The six-member inquest jury on Wednesday found the death was an accident.
La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke says charges will not be filed.
The La Crosse Tribune says THC was found in the blood of the father, but a state crime lab toxicologist testified it was impossible to determine when he last smoked marijuana.
