Ex-assistant principal convicted in sex case freed
A former Dubuque public school assistant principal convicted of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student has been released from prison.
The Telegraph Herald of Dubuque reports that former Hempstead High School Assistant Principal Shane Oswald was released Friday morning.
Oswald was arrested in January 2010 on suspicion of having sex with a 17-year-old student. He was also charged with distribution of a controlled substance and providing alcohol to a minor, but those charges were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Oswald must now register as a sex offender and will be on probation until October 2017.
