Ex-Iowa chief cites personal reasons for quitting
Jim Warkentin says personal reasons led him to resign as chief of the North Liberty police force.
The Gazette reports that Warkentin didn't elaborate on those reasons in a press release issued through the city on Wednesday. His resignation was effective on Friday.
North Liberty Mayor Tom Salm and City Administrator Ryan Heiar have declined to comment on Warkentin's resignation, saying only that that Warkentin was no longer employed by the city. The eastern Iowa city has about 13,400 residents.
Warkentin worked for the department from Aug. 9, 1999, until Friday.
Lt. Diane Venenga has been named acting police chief.
