A 34-year-old man has been accused of misusing a Des Moines Public Library Foundation credit card to steal nearly $18,600 from the foundation while an employee.

Stephen Haider, of Des Moines, remained in Polk County Jail on Tuesday. Haider is charged with theft and false use of a credit card. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.

Police say Haider had used the card earlier this year to make unauthorized charges for restaurant, bar, cellphone and limousine bills.

He was an executive assistant for the foundation, which raises money and advocates for the library system.
