Dyersville council OKs deal for baseball complex
The Dyersville City Council has approved a development agreement with an organization that plans to build a 24-field youth baseball and softball complex at the Field of Dreams site.
The Telegraph Herald of Dubuque reports the council voted 3-1 on Tuesday to approve the deal with Go the Distance Baseball, LLC.
Under the agreement, the city will rebate up to $5.1 million in property tax revenue to Go the Distance Baseball over 15 years.
The Iowa Legislature earlier this year passed a law that provides a $16.5 million tax rebate for the project.
The $38 million complex will be at the site where the 1989 movie "Field of Dreams" was filmed and where a baseball field carved from a cornfield remains.
