Dyersville OKs step in 'Field of Dreams' project
DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) -- The Dyersville City Council has approved a tentative outline for a future development agreement for the "Field of Dreams" project.
The Telegraph Herald in Dubuque says the council on Monday approved a memorandum of understanding, which will serve as a framework for an agreement with the prospective buyer.
An Illinois couple has announced plans to buy the farmhouse and baseball field featured in the 1989 film, along with the surrounding land, to build the "All-Star Ballpark Heaven." It would include 24 baseball and softball diamonds.
City officials say key points include requiring the developer to pay for installing city water and sewer line estimated at $2.5 million.
Up next for the project is a July 2 public hearing on the proposed voluntary annexation of property.
