LA CROSSE, Wis. -

A drunken driver crashed into five cars at the Alpine Inn tavern Saturday night.

The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department is recommending the driver, 63-year-old La Crosse resident David Hyde, Jr., be charged with his fourth OWI offense.

Witnesses told the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department Hyde was driving eastbound on Bliss Road when he veered off the road and into a ditch. He then drove back onto the road, failed to negotiate a curve and hit five cars parked in front of the Alpine Inn.

All of those cars were extensively damaged and had to be towed.

Tri-State Ambulance transported Hyde to the hospital with significant injuries to his face.
