Downtown La Crosse is unique for its long history, and one annual event strives to celebrate it.

Downtown Main Street held the 21 annual Historic Downtown Day Saturday afternoon.

The event brings together families with all aspects of the downtown area.

Families were able to paint pumpkins, tour old buildings and enjoy the farmers market.

Organizers say the event is a way to follow Oktoberfest with something more for the whole family.

"They wanted something that was a little more family friendly and so here in downtown La Crosse, it follows anywhere between a week and two weeks after Oktoberfest as an opportunity for people to come down with their families and really enjoy downtown. But also to celebrate the history of our city and the history of our downtown," Robin Moses, Executive Director of Downtown Main Street said.

Organizers say Saturday's beautiful weather helped make the event a success.
