A popular park and its lake near downtown Des Moines are undergoing construction.
Work is scheduled to begin Monday to restore portions of a trail around Gray's Lake and a park road.
The Des Moines Register reports the work will fix a barren steep bank caused by years of erosion, flooding and wave action. The slope will be rebuilt with soil and planted with vegetation.
Restoration will begin on the north shore, and workers will install a 10-foot-long steel sheet pile wall. Drain tiles also will be installed.
The trail and road will be shut down at different points during construction, which is expected to last a month. Work on the east end of the park will take two weeks, and the trail will be shut down.
