Deadlines for getting holiday mail delivered on time

One week after the busiest shopping day of the year, it's time to start thinking about getting your gifts shipped to your loved ones.

Deadlines to get letters and packages to arrive in time for Christmas start in less than three weeks. Standard, First Class mail should be dropped into a mailbox before the 20th of December.

It comes even earlier if you're sending to a member of the military serving overseas. That Deadline is December 10th.

La Crosse's acting postmaster says there's a way to avoid the lines at the post office and make sure your gift goes out on time. "Another alternative is our USPS.com online, where you can print and pay for postage and also request carrier pickup for free," said Diane Riley.

Monday, December 10th is expected to be the busiest day at the post office. Riley says lines are usually shorter earlier in the day and in the middle of the week.
