DIY show helps support local Habitat for Humanity
A new event is giving people a fresh perspective on old things.
The first annual "Your Home : Restyled, Repurposed and ReVived" show brought together local vendors and residents from across area to the Winona Armory Saturday.
The event was put on by the Winona and Filmore counties Habitat for Humanity and the Winona ReStore.
People could shop for repurposed home furnishings and catch demonstrations on various do-it-yourself projects including furniture restoration, tiling and reupholstering.
Organizers said the event was a great way to encourage a growing trend.
"It's a sustainability thing," said Jen Tepovich, a communications volunteer. "People are very aware of what we're throwing away in our landfills, and recycling and reusing and repurposing has become very big. Instead of throwing something in your garbage, turn it into something else and save some money in the process."
There was also a silent auction with the proceeds benefiting the local nonprofit.
More than 200 people attended Saturday's event.
