LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Our community came together to honor a social justice hero.

There was big turnout at Viterbo's Fine Arts Center in La Crosse for a special Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.

People gathered to hear song from local choirs and a presentation from a pastor who studies the work of Doctor King.

He is spreading the work of the icon in hopes that Dr. King's work will continue to inspire 50 years later.

"Try to get people to understand the dream maybe in a different context, to stand in the prophetic tradition and to continue to the work, especially continue the work that Dr. King was doing in the last months of his life," said keynot speaker Rev. Andre Johnson.

Johnson says the "I have a dream" speech is the most inspiration speech of the 20th Century and continues to be relevant today.
