The Salvation Army officially kicked off their coats for kids campaign on Monday.
Over the next month, the Salvation Army is collecting coats, hats, mittens, and other kinds of winter gear.
It's not just for kids, the program also collects winter gear in adults sizes, with large men's jackets and gloves being in high demand.
"Last year we handed out about 1,000 more jackets than we had the previous year so the need has definitely grown and we certainly anticipate that the need will be great again this year," says Julie Nelson with the Salvation Army.
The organization says the need for winter gear has grown recently.
The coats for kids campaign runs through November 9th.
Anyone can drop off new or gently used items at Kwik trip locations or at the Salvation Army, located at 223 North 8th Street.
The items will be distributed in early November.
