City asking property owners to have ash trees removed
Crews would also plant a new tree
The City of Winona is asking for 300 property owners to volunteer to have their boulevard ash trees removed and replaced by another kind of tree for free this spring.
The city says it's trying to increase the diversity of trees on street boulevards and combat emerald ash borer.
Crews will replant trees that are native to this area of Minnesota at no cost to property owners. The city says they can choose from about 12 different types of trees.
If you’re interested in having an ash tree removed and a new tree planted, contact Paul Douglas at (507) 457-8255 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
As part of the City of Winona Ash Tree Management Plan, about 50-percent of the publically owned ash trees on street boulevards and in city parks will receive a chemical treatment to protect against an infestation of emerald ash borer. The city says each treatment of an individual tree is expected for about three years.
