City, Loggers close to new lease agreement for Copeland Park
Loggers baseball will be back at the Lumberyard soon. Tickets go on sale next month.
The team's current long-term lease allowing them to play at La Crosse's Copeland Park expires in August. But we're told a new long-term lease agreement is close to being finished.
"We're about to enter the spring season," says Loggers GM Chris Goodell. He met with city officials Thursday for the tenth time in the past 2 1/2 years to negotiate for a new lease agreement. "We're kind of at the point where we're eager to get it done and put some finishing touches on it."
Goodell says a lot of work has gone into the agreement so far, from both sides.
"When you reconvene to talk about these things once every ten years in this instance, you want to make sure everything's in-place, and that it's a good partnership and continues to be. It has been for the past ten years. We certainly want it to be a good partnership for both sides."
A new lease would need approval from the city council.
