La Crosse golfers took to the course Saturday for a early fall classic.
The Charlie Miller Bow Tie Classic was held to honor the life of Dr. Charles Miller, a longtime member of the La Crosse Board of Education and founder of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation.
Miller died unexpectedly while playing racquetball in May of 2011.
Saturday's event gathered more than 90 golfers at Forest Hills Golf Course.
Organizers say the event is important to funding educational activities in the community.
"The foundation relies on community support. Whether it's local businesses, like Coulee Bank is our presenting sponsor today, we have a number of other business sponsors and just a lot of individuals who gave gifts. They bought whole sponsorship for this event. And of course, all year round we count on that community support," Executive Director of LPEF said.
Teams competed to win prizes for area schools with grants totaling 1 thousand dollars.
