Just because a person is confined to a hospital bed
doesn't mean they were denied a chance to vote today.
Those who are hospitalized are allowed to appoint
a person to retrieve and deliver their absentee ballot
to the poll.
The person voting can appoint anyone to be their agent
as long as the person being appointed provides their
information on the absentee ballot application.
Officials at Mayo Clinic Health System say they worked
with the state to make sure all voting rules were
and everyone had a chance to have their voice heard.
We know that every vote counts and so we want to make
sure that those votes count whether they've been in
the hospital for a week or they were unfortunately
maybe brought in this morning or this afternoon.
While the hospitals will help where they can .
officials say it's the patient's responsibility to
ask for that help.
Gundersen Health System in La Crosse also helped interested
patients cast their absentee ballots.
