Boston Marathon: La Crosse area runner hears explosion
List of local runners confirmed safe
There were several local runners at the Boston Marathon Monday. One of those runners is 33-year-old Ryan Callan from Coon Valley.
About 40 minutes after he crossed the finish line, Callan heard two loud bangs but wasn't exactly sure what they were. It was only after he got back to his hotel that he heard what happened.
"My phone has been going crazy," said Callan. "I put a posting up on Facebook letting people know we were okay, but I can't keep up with the text messages. You were the first phone call we were able to make, the phone lines have been shut down."
Callan says his parents, who were at the marathon cheering him on, are also unharmed.
"I'm not sure I'm even in a position to comprehend this yet. I'm really curious to know who would do something like this. It's unfathomable. I realize these things happen over and over again around the world but it still baffles me," he added.
