Biking 'paperboy' at age 86
A southern Minnesota man has turned his passion for biking into a part-time job. And at age 86, Bud Schaefer just might be the region's oldest `paperboy.'
Schaefer says his children bought him a bike for Christmas four years ago, but he wasn't sure he'd use it. Instead, the great-grandfather embraced biking, wore out at least one set of tires and even began earning some pocket change while tooling around Adams. Schaefer straps 37 Post-Bulletin newspapers in his bike basket each afternoon and makes his deliveries.
Larry Croker greets Schaefer in his driveway. Croker tells KARE-TV he's never had an older paperboy -- or one that's been so dependable. When the winter snow starts piling up, Schaefer will use his vehicle to make his deliveries and then head to his basement where he rides his stationary bike.
