VILLAGE of TAYLOR, Wis. -

Authorities say one person was injured in a shooting Wednesday night at 325 Highland Avenue in the Village of Taylor in Jackson County.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Jarrod Thompson, 31, of rural Ettrick, shot Robert Schafer, 25, of Taylor.

Authorities say before the shooting, Schafer came onto the property in the driveway area and went into Lori Peterson’s vehicle.  Peterson and Thompson saw Schafer on the property and made contact with him. Authorities say Schafer approached Thompson in a threatening manner. Thompson warned Schafer to stop and told him he had a gun. Schafer disregarded the warning. Authorities say Thompson then fired one round, which struck Schafer in the lower abdominal area.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Schafer left the scene before law enforcement arrived. They later found out he got a ride to the local hospital in Whitehall for medical treatment.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office personnel made contact with Schafer at the hospital. Authorities say he refused to talk with them about the incident. He was later transported by helicopter to Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse.

Law enforcement say they had been trying to find Schafer for an alleged domestic–related incident. There was also a restraining order against between Peterson and Schafer. Authorities say Schafer also had a probation warrant for his arrest.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says there have been no arrests or charged made regarding this incident at this time.
