A horse camp at the Black River State Forest will soon become a group camp site, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
The reason for the change, the DNR says, is because the horse camp gets "very little use" and there is increasing demand for group camps.
The Natural Resources Board, which sets DNR policy, has already approved the change. The horse camp will close May 28 and reopen on Friday, June 7 and will remain open through November.
The 17-mile trail system within the Black River Forest will no longer be maintained for horse use. The forest roads will still be available for horse riders to use.
