GALE, Wis. -- Are you ready for the zombie apocalypse?

If that question got your attention, you're not alone.

It's the question the Gale Area Emergency Management Committee asked people today at the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Showcase.

The idea behind their zombie theme is, if you're ready for a zombie apocalypse, you're ready for any disaster. That includes floods, fires, tornadoes, blizzards and chemical spills.

Gale Area Emergency Management is encouraging residents to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit with clothes, food, and medications.

"Having this done in advance when there's no emergency means when the emergency hits, you can grab it and run. And you're not wasting precious time and possibly risking your life to try and get those things that you need," said Gale Area Emergency Management Director Sally Miller.

That's especially true when you're being chased by a horde of hungry zombies.

Miller said the zombie apocalypse theme has been successful in attracting the attention of younger families. The Emergency Management Committee plans on sticking with the theme through the summer.
