Officials in central Iowa say the number of applications for weapons permits has jumped in the last two years.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office released data Thursday that shows nearly 700 applications were submitted last month for permits to carry weapons. That's a jump from about 400 during the same month in 2010.
The total number of applications was just over 4,000 in 2010. It was nearly 5,000 in 2012.
The number of applications for permits to acquire weapons has remained steadier during the two-year period. But there was a jump last month of about 400 applications. That's double the applications during the same month in 2011.
