You have a chance to make a local child's Christmas extra special.
The Salvation Army's Angel Giving Tree is standing tall in La Crosse's Valley View Mall.
Each tag on the tree has a list on it specific to a local child whose family is struggling financially. Sponsors buy something on the list, then drop it off at the Salvation Army.
From there, the gifts are delivered for the children to open Christmas morning. "A lot of times its a special toy or gift for the child, cause the child will tell them I want this toy or I saw that, that I want, or this book or whatever it is, so it will most likely be something like that," said Major Paul Moore of the local Salvation Army.
About 1,200 kids are participating in the program. The tree will stay up in the mall until all the tags are taken, but gifts must be purchased and returned by December 17th.
