Amish teen dies after falling through ice

WESTBY, Wis. -

A 17-year-old Amish boy is dead after falling through the ice in Vernon County.

It happened some time Saturday morning on Woods Ridge Road, in the town of Clinton.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Department says the 17-year-old was cutting blocks of ice on a spring-fed pond at the time. When his family was unable to locate him, the boy's fathered called 911.

The Vernon County Dive Team was able to find the boy's body after a search of the pond. He had been under water for at least two hours and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
