Adaptive ski clinic provides special equipment for kids
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- A ski clinic at Mount La Crosse Sunday made sure everyone, even those with a physical disability, could enjoy the long awaited snow.
The adaptive clinic provided specialized skis to individuals who needed them.
Thanks to the equipment, a number of families and friends were all able to ski together for the first time.
Organizers say the equipment allows individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to do something they may have never done before.
The clinic was hosted for the 10th year by the YWCA and The North American Squirrel Association.
Event Coordinator Lisa Mathson says the chance to go skiing is an incredible experience for some of the kids. "This activity gives them great independence an activity they probably couldn't do without this specialized equipment that we have here," she says. "It gives them a great opportunity to get out on the hill with their family and friends and try an activity they maybe couldn't have done before without this equipment."
The special skis can be checked out through the YWCA. There is no cost for borrowing the equipment.
