TOWN OF BIG FLATS, Wis. -

An early-morning shooting in Adams County has left one person dead and another with non-life-threatening injuries, and it is being investigated by authorities as an apparent attempted murder-suicide.

Sheriff's officials said the incident happened around 3:45 a.m. Monday at a home on West Trout Valley Road in the town of Big Flats.

According to the Adams County Sheriff's Department, someone called 911 Monday morning, saying a woman had been shot at the home, and the victim's ex-boyfriend had been outside and shot at her through a window.

Deputies arrived outside the home and found Mark Schaetzka, 38, of Adams, dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies went inside and found Chari Dayton, 28, who was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff's officials said Schaetzka and Dayton were involved in a domestic disturbance on Sunday night, and Schaetzka was arrested by sheriff's deputies. He was released after posting a cash bond.
