DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -

Authorities have arrested an acquaintance of a 31-year-old Des Moines man and charged him with murder.

Police Sgt. Jason Halifax says Joseph Ceretti, 30, was taken into custody on Monday evening. Ceretti is charged with fatally stabbing Eric Naylor early Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a residential neighborhood around 12:30 a.m. Monday, after a passer-by found Naylor and called for help. Police say Naylor was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Initial reports said Naylor had been shot, but an autopsy determined that he'd been stabbed to death.

Halifax says Ceretti intermittently stayed with Naylor.

Investigators say they haven't determined a motive for the slaying.
