LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Coulee Region Polar Plunge organizers say about $190,000 was raised for Special Olympics Wisconsin this year.

Event organizers are still adding up the total number of plungers and "chickens" -- people who raised money but were "too chicken to plunge." Early estimates show about 1,300 registered for the event.

The money raised supports Special Olympics, helping about 350 athletes in La Crosse and about 1,700 in this region.

"Any time you can raise $190,000 for a cause, it's a win!" said Kerry Gloede, La Crosse Parks and Recreation Events Coordinator.
