LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) -

La Crosse police arrested three 17-year-olds and a 20-year-old on burglary charges.

Investigators say the teens had burglarized at least two garages and attempted to enter 20 vehicles in the area of 22nd and Hyde Avenue on the city's south side.

Police responded to a report of suspicious suspects in the area of 2200 Hoeschler Dr. on the city’s south side on Monday at 8 p.m.

Police found the teens near 16th and Green Bay Streets. One of the 17-year-olds had a Ruger 357 handgun in his front sweatshirt pocket along with ammunition, a screwdriver, a flashlight, a glove and a large amount of change in his pockets.

Police say a handgun had been stolen from a vehicle that was parked in a locked garage that was forcibly entered. There were other items recovered that had been taken from garages and vehicles they entered Monday night.

Investigators also discovered that the suspects are tied to at least eight business burglaries and several other burglaries and thefts in the area over the last several weeks.

One of the 17-year-olds faces charges for burglary, possession of burglary tools, carrying a concealed weapon, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal damage to property. Another teen faces charges for burglary, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, theft, and entry into locked vehicle. The third teen faces charges for theft, receiving stolen property, entry to locked vehicle and party to the crime charges.

Police say additional arrests and charges are possible as the investigation continues.

La Crosse police want to remind the public to report any damaged property and remember to lock your vehicles, garages and secure your property to help prevent these crimes from happening in in the future.
