The U-S housing market is taking another hit when
it comes to new home building....
That's based on new numbers from the U-S Commerce
From June to July.
the U-S saw an almost two-and-a-half percent drop.
and the Midwest saw a nearly 9- percent decrease in
the number of new homes sold across the country.
that is not the case in our area.
Local builders say since the recession things have
slowly picked up and now they're busier than ever.
The Vice President of Mastercraft Builders in Onalaska
says companies that had to cut staff a few years ago.
are beginning to hire more employees.
and are busy.
He says business is good for trades like plumbers
and electricians as well.
7- Yeah they're picking up, they're back to we have
to schedule them out 2-3 weeks in advance just so
they can fit us into our schedule.
We no longer can call them and 2-3 days later can
show up at a job site
Stokes Electric in La Crosse is one of those companies
staying plenty busy.
It's hired new employees recently.
and since 2008 they've seen a nice steady increase
in the number of homes being built.
6- it's getting closer, but were not quite back to
where we were.
It's been a lot better than what it has been though.
Along with new homes being built and sold.
builders say the number of remodels in the area is
up as well.
