The deadline to announce how much money the campaigns
for Wisconsin governor have raised isn't for another
But in a surprise move.
both Governor Scott Walker and Democratic candidate
Mary Burke are letting the public know how well both
parties are doing.
a little early.
The newly released numbers show the millions of dollars
both have raised so far this year.
and how some of it's used in our community.

Governor Scott Walker is clearly ahead.
GRAPHIC: In 2014 Governor Walker has raised 8.2 million
GRAPHIC: His campaign has only spent about 6 hundred
Heim: 5- All in all he is good at raising money.
He knows how to do it, he's had enough campaigns to
be very successful at it
Democratic candidate Mary Burke has raised less than
half what Walker has.
GRAPHIC: Shes put 3.6 million dollars in the bank.
GRAPHIC: And has spent about 1.1 million.
Heim: 4- think of politics as a horse race, people
put their money in who they think is going to win.
So if Mary Burke was concieved as the front runner
she'd be getting more money than the governor
UW-L Political Science professor Joe Heim says Burke
isn't bad at fundraising.
It just looks that way compared to Walker.
Heim: 9- her numbers actually compare favorably to
what he did 4 years ago and other candidates have
The fact that the governor is
so far ahead is an indication,
of his national exposure and just the fact that he's
got a lot of financial support behind him and has
in the past
No matter how much either candidate raises.
here in La Crosse County.
democrats and republicans agree those fundraising
dollars will be put to good use to get their candidate
Remiker: 3- a lot of that money will come down in
the form of yard signs, field support, getting staff
that can help people get in the right place, bumper
Bradley: 4- the problem we've had is not that our
message is out of date,
we just need more messangers.....This
money allows us to get that message out there.
Even though Walker has more dollars.
Heim says it will still come down to the votes in
Heim: 13- you can win a race without outspending your
Money gives you an enormous advantage however, without

Heim says a positive for the Burke campaign is that
she is capable of funding the campaign herself.
And so far.
she has not put any of her own money in this year.
Heim also says he expects outside groups from both
parties to be spending quite a bit of money in this
race as well.
