A homicide investigation is underway in La Crosse.
and a suspect is in custody following this morning's
chase and crash that ended in Holmen.

The La Crosse Police Department says an officer ran
the plates of a car just after 1 this morning near
He noticed the driver didn't match the description
of the 79-year old car owner Merle Forbes.
Forbes was reported missing and endangered in Platteville
When the officer tried to pull the car over.
the driver sped away.
A chase went north on highway 35 through Onalaska
ending at the highway 53 interchange near Holmen.
when the driver rear ended another vehicle and rolled
Officers found an elderly man in the trunk of the
who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Forbes' family has confirmed that vehicle owner Merle
Forbes was the man in the trunk.
Police say Forbes had injuries appearing to be from
an assault prior to the crash.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.

25 year old Timmy Johnson Junior has been taken into
Criminal charges are pending.
We aren't expecting anymore details until Monday.
We did some digging.
Johnson was just released yesterday morning from the
Grant County jail.
Online court records show multiple prior charges against
Johnson for opearting a car without consent.
Two people were taken to the hospital after the crash.
one with non life threatening injuries.
and the other with life threatening injuries.
It's not clear the extent of Johnson's injuries.
