Crawford County residents now have a 24-hour location where they can drop off unused or expired medications.
The Franciscan Healthcare - Villa Succés and the Crawford County Human Services Department fully funded the secure drop box, which is located at the lobby of the Crawford County Joint Law Enforcement Center, 220 North Beaumont Road in Prairie du Chien.
All over-the-counter and prescription drugs can be dropped off. Sharps and syringes cannot be deposited in the drop box.
“The goal of obtaining this box is to address a vital public safety and public health issue,” the Prairie du Chien Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department said in a joint news release.
“I would like to thank the Franciscan Healthcare - Villa Succés and Crawford County Human Services for their financial contribution towards this drop box,” said Prairie du Chien Police Chief Chad Abram.
“The abuse of prescription drugs in our community has been an ongoing problem and the resource of a 24-hour drop box is just one small step to ensuring the safety of our communities,” said Crawford County Sheriff Dale McCullick.
