1895: Boxer Jack Dempsey, who held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1919 to 1926 and was one of the most popular boxers in history, is born in Manassa, Colo. Dempsey compiled a career record of 65 wins (51 by knockout), six losses, 11 draws and one no-contest.
