1971: Robert Altman's Western "McCabe & Mrs. Miller," starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie, is released to theaters. The movie, which Altman called an "anti-western film" because it ignores or subverts a number of Western conventions, featured the music of Leonard Cohen and earned Christie an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
