1978: The racehorse Affirmed wins the Belmont Stakes to capture the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. The thoroughbred was the 11th and most recent horse to win the Triple Crown, which consists of winning the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
