WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -

It will be next year before a Waterloo man accused of killing his infant 18-month-old son goes on trial.

Twenty-three-year-old Daniel Reddout is charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment in the death of his son, Kaleb, in April 2011.

KWWL-TV says Reddout appeared in Black Hawk County District Court on Thursday, where his trial was set for April 4.

Police were called to a Cedar Falls apartment to investigate a report of a child not breathing. An autopsy showed the boy died of asphyxiation. Authorities say Reddout cut off his son's airways to get him to sleep
