Elisabeth Fritzl (1984) -- An Austrian native, Fritzl was held captive by her sadistic father Josef in a cellar beneath their family home for 24 years. She was repeatedly raped and forced to bear seven of his children, three of whom she raised in the dungeon while three were taken upstairs to live "normal" lives. Her plight was only uncovered in 2008 after she slipped a note in her daughter's pocket when the girl went for treatment at a local hospital. Josef Frizl is serving life in prison.
