Sparta police are asking for the public's help identifying the person(s) involved in two robberies on Friday night.
A man wearing a black ski mask entered Casey’s General Store, 326 S. Black River Street, at 9:30 p.m. and demanded money, police said.
The suspect claimed to have a gun, but did not display a weapon during the robbery, police said. The suspect ran away with an undetermined amount of cash.
The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, about 5’6” to 5’8” tall with a medium build. The suspect was wearing a camouflage coat with a hood, a green shirt, blue jeans, and red gloves.
Earlier in the day, a robbery was reported on the 800 block of Charles Drive. The victim told police she was selling items door-to-door for a charity fundraiser at 7:30 p.m. She said she was going back to her vehicle when an unidentified man shouted to her from the front of a nearby home. The suspect asked about the items the victim was selling and if she could make change. The victim told police when she attempted to do so, the suspect took the money from her hands and ran away.
The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his twenties, between 5’3” and 5’4”, weighing about 140-150 pounds. The suspect was wearing a black jacket, black or dark-colored jeans and a black ski mask. At this time, Sparta police do not know if this robbery is related to the one at Casey’s General Store.
On Sunday, December 22, a man entered the Family Dollar, 410 Black River Street South in Sparta and threatened to kill employees if he wasn’t given money. He ran away with an undetermined amount of cash. Sparta police are investigating whether this incident is connected to the two that happened on Friday, December 20.
