Two people were injured when a driver lost control of her vehicle on Christmas Eve going westbound on State Highway 56, near Cook Hill Road just east of the City of Viroqua.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says Holly Gander, 23, of Viola, lost control of her vehicle on freezing drizzle at 11:35 a.m. Her vehicle left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and came to a rest on a concrete box culvert.
Passenger Taylor Visgar, 22, of Viola was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare and treated for a head injury. He was later released. Authorities say Gander refused treatment, but later reported a possible head injury.
Following this crash, at 11:42 a.m., Sharilyn Nelson, 19, of Viroqua, lost control of her vehicle while approaching the accident scene. Authorities say Nelson’s vehicle spun around and collided with a parked sheriff’s patrol car with the emergency lights operating along the eastbound lane.
The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says no one was injured in that crash, but there was minor to moderate damage to both vehicles. Seatbelts were worn by all drivers and passengers.
