La Crosse police arrested two people in connection to a methamphetamine lab investigation Tuesday afternoon at America's Best Value Inn.

Police received an anonymous complaint of a possible meth lab inside one of the hotel rooms.

Specially trained officers of the La Crosse police Department, the State Department of Criminal Investigation and the La Crosse Sheriff’s Department wento to the suspected room and located a meth lab. Police said there were several dangerous chemicals, gas type masks and a large quantity of methamphetamine oils.

La Crosse police arrested Laura D. Rud, 36, of La Crosse, on a manufacture methamphetamine charge. Brian C. Brainard, 27, of Lansing, Iowa, was arrested on the following charges: manufacture methamphetamine, possesses methamphetamine and possession of a switch blade.

Trained investigators immediately removed the lab contents outside of the hotel. A Drug Enforcement Administration out of Chicago responded to La Crosse to collect the chemicals and render them safe.

"Meth labs require extensive manpower to investigate and extreme precautions when dealing with them," La Crosse Police Chief Ron Rischer said in a statement. "Having all of these chemicals in a hotel like this situation could have been catastrophic."
