2 Iowa inmates die of cancer in prison
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa prison officials say two inmates have died of cancer.
The corrections department says 61-year-old Dennis McKee died on Sunday from colon cancer. He was serving a life sentence for first-degree sexual abuse from Linn County in 1980. McKee died in hospice care at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison.
Officials say 55-year-old Virgil Wilson Jr. died on Sunday from lung cancer. He was serving a 40-year sentence on four counts on assault to commit sex abuse from Palo Alto County in 2002. Wilson, who was at the state prison in Newton, died at an Iowa City hospital.
