1987: Professional tennis player Andy Murray, who won the 2012 U.S. Open and a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, is born in Glasgow, Scotland. His U.S. Open victory made him the first British player since 1977, and the first British man since 1936, to win a Grand Slam singles tournament. Earlier in 2012 he became the only British player to reach the Wimbledon men's singles final since 1938, when it was still restricted to amateur players, but lost to Roger Federer. He has also been runner-up in four other Grand Slam finals in his career.
