1908: The first production Ford Model T car leaves the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit, Mich. The car, which had a 20-horsepower, four-cylinder engine, went on sale on Oct. 1, 1908, with versions starting at $850. The car, which is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, would be produced for 19 years, during which time more than 15 million were sold.
